Cornix LP — User Manual

← All user guides

Cornix is a fully wireless split ergonomic keyboard developed by JezailFunder. It supports Bluetooth and USB connections, macros, home-row modifiers and combos. Two RGB indicators on each half show connection and battery status.

Power and charging

With the keyboard facing you, slide the power switch on each half to the left for ON and to the right for OFF. Turn on both halves before use, and keep the power on while charging.

The source manual recommends charging from a computer where possible, avoiding fast chargers or high-output adapters, unplugging when fully charged and avoiding prolonged charging. Firmware v1.11 strengthened power protection and stability. For units shipped in 2025 running an earlier version, the manual recommends considering an update. Check the installed version in Vial under Keyboard Layout.

Remap keys with Vial

Cornix supports Vial remapping over USB and wirelessly. The web and desktop applications use the same basic workflow.

Default keymap

cornix-default-keymap.vil — 8.6 KB. In the Vial desktop app, choose File → Load saved layout to import it.

  1. Open vial.rocks.
  2. Click Start Vial, select the device and connect. In USB mode, select Cornix. In wireless mode, the source manual lists “Conrix — paired” on macOS or “Unknown device (0000:0000)” on Windows; the displayed name can vary.
  3. Once connected, select keys and customize their assignments.

If wireless remapping fails

Radio interference can interrupt wireless remapping. Try reconnecting, restarting the browser and reloading Vial, or switching the keyboard off and on. If the error continues, connect the left half to the computer with a USB data cable and remap over USB.

USB and Bluetooth connections

Connect the left half to your computer or other host using USB for wired operation. Cornix can also store and switch between up to three Bluetooth devices, BT0 / BT1 / BT2.

In Vial’s User tab, assign BT0, BT1 and BT2 to your preferred keys. The full manual illustrates a default shortcut using MO(3) with Caps / Shift / Ctrl; the beginner layout uses Layer 2. Check your actual loaded keymap in Vial rather than assuming the same layer number for every layout.

Connection priority

  • USB priority (default): when the left half is connected to a computer by USB, USB is used and Bluetooth is disabled.
  • Bluetooth priority: an existing Bluetooth connection stays active when USB is plugged in, and USB only charges. USB data is used if no Bluetooth connection is established.

To toggle priorities, assign Switch Output from Vial’s User tab to a key, then press that key.

Sleep and pairing

Cornix sleeps automatically after inactivity. If already connected over Bluetooth, it maintains that connection during sleep. If it sleeps while advertising for a host, press a key to wake it before searching for it again from your Bluetooth device.

The halves pair automatically at first startup and reconnect automatically on later starts.

Clear and restore the pairing between halves

  1. Open Vial and go to the User tab.
  2. Assign Clear Peer to a key.
  3. Hold that key for at least 8 seconds to clear the pairing.
  4. Disconnect USB, switch both halves off, wait 3 seconds, then switch them on again.
  5. After restarting, the unpaired halves search and pair automatically.

Firmware updates

Open Cornix firmware downloads and release notes. Update both halves using the corresponding left and right files.

Back up before updating

A firmware update can reset your keymap and pairing information. In the Vial desktop app, use File → Save current layout to export a backup. After updating, use File → Load saved layout to restore a compatible backup. Remove Cornix from your computer’s Bluetooth settings before updating.

Prepare

  • Save the correct left and right firmware files to your computer.
  • Have a thin tool, such as tweezers or a SIM pin, ready for the reset button.

Enter boot mode and install firmware

  1. Connect one half to your computer with a USB cable.
  2. Quickly press the reset button twice with the tool. A USB drive named Cornix or NO NAME should appear.
  3. Drag the matching UF2 file to that drive: left for the left half, right for the right half.
  4. The keyboard restarts when the transfer completes. A transfer or eject message may appear during this restart; the source manual describes this as normally temporary.
  5. Repeat the procedure on the other half. Both halves re-pair automatically. Check the version in Vial’s Layout tab.
